Obama, Clinton, 50th Grammy Awards, MAGIC Convention, 50 Cent, Thank You’s and Everything Else.. Fri. Feb. 15th, 08′
Before I even get started, I have to take a moment to personally thank everyone that came out yet again in support of our promotion for DJ Whoo Kid, G-Unit Radio, Shadyville and Lil Kim for the Queen Bee’s first ever mix-tape “Ms. G.O.A.T.” (NEW LIL KIM ALBUM COMING SOON) at Element Hollywood on Saturday, January 26th. The level of support from our city, friends, associates and colleagues is very humbling and never taken for granted. We understand that you all have multiple party options living here in the “City of Angels”, especially in the Hollywood club scene. Again it is very humbling and appreciated that you all turn out each and every time and continue to spread the word and help push this Shadoworld movement. So, directly from me and the entire Shadoworld organization to all of you that take the time out to read this entry, THANK YOU VERY MUCH. YOUR SUPPORT IS APPRECIATED!!!
Feel free to check out the video footage from the party at Element on the Shadoworld HOME page, scroll down to the bottom VIDEOS section. Packed house, wall to wall bodies, super hot and sexy night and a few lucky individuals received copies of the mix-tape.
Ok, so the entire staff is back in Los Angeles. Fresh from a quick run to Las Vegas aka “Sin City” for the incredible 2008 MAGIC Fashion show (Men’s Apparel Guild of California convention). MAGIC is the largest fashion convention in the world; it puts the fashion designers new and old directly in front of all the corporate and retail buyers from around the world in order to generate sales of the designers new lines. Everyone is back and we are back in grind mode. Gearing up for some Hot Import Nights tour dates, more G-Unit Records/ Shadyville and THISIS50.COM promotional projects, squaring away the Shadoworld Records website ( www.shadoworldrecords.com ) finally in the coming days after a several unforeseeable delays, more promotional parties, more advance movie screenings and getting this Ahrae freshmen LP “Theory 74 A” in the perfect pocket of completion and release. At the end of the day, the music is what drives us; the excitement of this next phase of Shadoworld that has been in the careful planning for sometime and now we head out down that path for the world to hear, see and feel.
So, it has been a minute since I posted a Blog entry and in that time a lot has happened in our world. Senator Barrack Obama continues to out perform all media and national polls expectations (8 in a row and he swept my old stomping grounds in the Potomac Primary), with some additional major contests on the horizon between Tuesday and March 4th. But you can’t count out Hillary Clinton and the former President Bill Clinton machine, because Hillary took California and looks like she is positioned to snag Texas, Ohio and Pennsylvania too in the coming weeks. The Writers Guild of America and Directors Guild of America ironed out their new contract ending the strike, putting everyone back to work officially this week in Hollywood. The 50th Annual Grammy Awards were held out here in Los Angeles last weekend, so Los Angeles was flooded with some of the music industry’s biggest and brightest stars and executives (minus 50 Cent, who passed on the Awards to do some charitable work for Floyd Mayweather’s charitable organization). Speaking of 50 Cent, he and Chris Lighty launched a new film production company at the Sundance Film Festival and he dissolved his partnership with Ecko Unlimited for his G-Unit Clothing and his www.thisis50.com just keeps growing at leaps and bounds adding more and more people everyday. Quietly look for a re-launch of G-Unit Clothing coming soon. Major League Soccer announced the 2008 soccer season schedule on the 14th, so look out for a new and upgraded Chivas USA team under the helm of President & CEO Stephen Hunter. Go Chivas! I am sure there are many other things going on, but I just really focus on things that play into our world and this Shadoworld master plan.
Lots of political head way being made just about every hour towards what will be one of the most historical general elections in the history of this country.
Let me take a minute just to touch on the African American vote, from the top of the Super Delegates to the blue collar African American vote. Boy, it is very interesting that as soon as Barack Obama started to perform you see a lot of prominent, pro Clinton elected officials jumping ship for team Obama. I mean John Lewis did the 180 from team Clinton to Obama. Hey, can’t go against your voters in your district. Keep your job.
Tavis Smiley just went off on Senator Obama and his wife about Senator Obama declining Tavis’s invitation for his Black Union symposium next Saturday February 23rd out in New Orleans, mind you Hillary is the only presidential candidate running that has accepted. What most media outlets view as a controversy, I see as yet another strategic move on part of the Obama campaign and the Clinton campaign. On Barack’s end of it, what does he gain?? The African American vote is in his corner, the exit polls in every contest to date show this fact with hard numbers so the base of the Democratic Party is rallying to him and that is the African American voters. He needs to attend this symposium to talk to us again why?? His message is obviously reaching African American voters, because he is winning that vote. Strategically Obama campaign needs to focus on these next few contests and I personally think Tavis getting so up in arms about the supposed snub is unnecessary. Part of it might be an issue of Tavis wanting to remain a strong political commentator i.e. a national political go to figure and force within the African American community and voters. But, I must say Tavis Smiley throughout his rise within the African American community and national stage has been a student of the political game and has been a regular solid and objective voice for Black America within the mainstream media, extremely insightful with his finger on the pulse of African American concerns, plights and problems. So, his obvious irritation behind the snub by Senator Obama is very interesting to me because it seems outside of his character to take it personal. Shouldn’t someone as astute as Tavis Smiley see the larger picture?? The big win, the general election win, the White House win, the Presidency, not the catering to the African American voters Senator Obama seems to already have, but the catering to the American vote as a whole. Because as I have repeatedly said it will take more than the African American vote to win in the general election in this historic race.
Now Hillary Clinton attending Tavis’s symposium is critical to her, because of previous miscalculations with her campaign strategy as it pertains to the African America vote. Which once not to long ago Hillary was all but guaranteed to receive the democratic nominations, I mean anyone that says anything different is lying to themselves. But, the Clinton’s base within the African American community has seen better days, I mean again look at the exit polls. But, her saving grace is that the Clinton’s are not afraid to fight down to the wire and the last vote. She has taken the loses and kept it moving. Now she is refocused and geared up to bring her voice directly to a base that they possibly took for granted by attending Tavis’s event next weekend. Hilary might be able to mend some bridges that might have been damaged with some, not all but some within the African American community. For Clinton, she needs any and every opportunity to speak to these voters and remind them all again why they supported her before tidal wave Obama came crashing down. When the chips are down you have to go after every vote and what better way for her to accomplish this task, than to sit down with Tavis Smiley in front of African American voters on a nationally televised platform. Reminding them of her support of our community throughout all her and her husband’s years in public service as well as her and her husband’s on going support of our community. So, it makes sense for her to attend and make her argument heard and maybe try to bring some of that African American voters back to the Clinton camp, plus Hillary seems to seriously be carrying the Hispanic vote as evident by the final decision here in California. The unknown factor, which is intriguing at best to me with the Hispanic vote because a lot of this upcoming election will fall to their participation in the process and their votes have been falling to Senator Clinton.
Now I know I am not saying anything a lot of you obviously are observing and seeing is going on behind the scenes. But, the media loves to blow a lot of things out of proportion and in the case of Tavis Smiley issue, I think each campaign is playing this invitation beautifully.
Now I do want to say this to every African American leader, columnist and media agent. Let’s stop screaming racism for the love of God. I mean every time anyone says anything negative about Senator Obama you hear it. Yes, Barack Obama is African American, but guess what he needs to earn the Democratic nomination and that means part of the process is being attacked and being able to take the attacks without the shield of the “Race Card”. Unless someone starts throwing around the “N” word or other racial slurs, just let it go. Because guess what, you baby the campaign now and keep using the “Race Card” as coverage at every turn over the littlest things or these code word comments will end up doing damage to the campaign. Mark my words, let the attacks come, let the democratic candidates rip each other apart. Barack should not have to hold his critiques of Senator Clinton because she is a woman or the first credible woman candidate to run no more than the Clintons or the media should have to pussy foot around the Obama campaign for fear of being called a racist or hate mongers. Give me a freaking break, these two are running for the most powerful office in the world. The WORLD people, so I think we all owe to ourselves to let them earn it and let the attacks come and come hard. We will know if any gender or race lines are truly and intentionally crossed. So, let them fight it out. Because guess what the Republicans are absolutely going to bring the rain in the general contest, if he wins the presidency the rest of the world is not going to play nice with him because he is black so let whoever gets the democratic nomination be tested right now before the general contest and before we take back the White House.
But, I say again and my position remains the same. Clinton-Obama, Obama-Clinton ticket gives us a solid 16 year run and that is what the United States needs and more importantly what the Democratic Party needs in order to implement some real national change. You see the Republicans are rallying and pulling resources to get behind their inevitable candidate Senator John McCain right now, McCain who recently gained endorsements from George Bush Sr., Governor Arnold Schwarnager, Rudolph Giuliani and Mitt Romney. They are getting their troops in line, unifying their party and gearing up for the real contest. The Democratic Party has the voters turning out in record numbers, so we have the foot soldiers in place now the big game play is locking up the White House for the next quarter of a century. Obama-Clinton, Clinton-Obama, DNC 25 year reign.
An there is my two cents, thirty minutes later another personal view from yours truly. Very interesting year ahead of us all. So, be active, get involved locally nationally or whatever works best for you and do not follow status quo. Go with the candidate and the PARTY that best represents your personal needs and beliefs. Be singular individuals and not sheep to the slaughter. Volunteer, donate and spread the word.
